Maison Estate is a sophisticated wine estate and luxury destination in Franschhoek, combining exceptional winemaking with world-class hospitality. Founded in 2008, the estate is now owned by AdVini, the French leader in terroir wines, and underwent extensive renovation in 2023 under new partners Seb Ackerstaff and Jessie Verdonschot from the COCOON design brand. The property features a beautifully converted 18th-century barn (built in 1796) transformed into a contemporary architectural masterpiece while retaining its historic soul. The estate name, meaning ‘home’ in French, reflects the welcoming philosophy of original owner Chris Weylandt of Weylandts furniture fame. Maison produces wines that are conscious narratives on authenticity, integrity, and simplicity, crafted in traditional ways since 2008. The wines are made naturally using sun, soil, and expert timing, reflecting the unique essence of each season. The estate specializes in Pinotage (South Africa’s iconic grape) and Chenin Blanc, with wines exported to over 30 countries. Adjacent to the estate, separated by a naartjie orchard, sits Chefs Warehouse at Maison, the award-winning restaurant by renowned chef Liam Tomlin, offering a contemporary four-course tapas-inspired menu crafted by Chef David Schneider. The estate offers luxury accommodation including The Residence (7 suites in the main farmhouse), The Stables Villa (2-bedroom), and The Botanical Suite with private garden. The property features four swimming pools, vast open living spaces with sliding doors disappearing into walls, wisteria pergolas, giant old oaks, soaring poplar trees, olive groves, citrus orchards, and rolling vineyards. Free-roaming animals including micro donkeys and miniature horses add to the authentic farm experience.
