About Eikehof Wines
Eikehof Wines is a family-owned boutique winery located on the R45 in Franschhoek, nestled among majestic old oak trees that give the estate its name. The farm has been in the Malherbe family since 1903, with the winemaking tradition revived in 1992 by Francois Malherbe, the fourth generation winemaker who crafts wines in the same cellar his great-grandfather used. The 58-hectare property includes 23 hectares of vineyards and peach orchards. Eikehof is renowned for having the oldest producing Semillon bush vines in South Africa, planted in 1902, which remain the flagship of the cellar. The estate produces approximately 4,000 cases of wine annually using a natural winemaking approach, selecting only 20% of the farm’s grape production for their cellar. The property produces six varietals: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a Rosé and Cape Ruby port-style fortified wine. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings under the shade of towering oaks with uninterrupted views of the vineyards and Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The estate is conveniently located opposite La Motte and is a stop on the popular Franschhoek Wine Tram route. Eikehof offers a warm, authentic family atmosphere with Francois and Elize Malherbe personally welcoming guests. The tasting room features beautifully carved wooden tables, and cheese platters from Dalewood Fromage are available to complement the wines. The estate also hosts weddings and special events in this picturesque setting.

Sauvignon Blanc
Elegant wine showing fresh and ripe fruits on the palate with hints of tropical fruits in perfect harmony, finishing with a crisp and elegant taste. Pairs well with white meats including chicken and pork.
Chardonnay (Unwooded)
Light shade with subtle aromatic palate offering citrus and apple characteristics throughout. Medium-styled, generously refreshing with a lively finish. Pairs with creamy chicken dishes or tuna salad.
Semillon
Made from the oldest Semillon vineyard in South Africa dated 1902. These historic grapes were fermented and matured in 300L French oak barrel for 12 months. Complex wine showing aromas of vanilla, butterscotch, honey and citrus flavors. Limited production of only 550 bottles.
Merlot
Medium-deep ruby red, delightfully fruity with chocolate and ripe plum flavors. Concentrated smooth finish. Minimal oaking allows for early enjoyment. Pairs well with light meats and grilled beef dishes.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Medium-deep ruby in color with enticing blackberry aromas. Remarkably complex taste combined with hints of cinnamon and spices. Ample structure providing mellow mouth-feel of ripe fruits leading to lengthy, soft finish. Delicious with peppery lamb stew or grilled steak.
Shiraz
Vines situated in sandy soil contribute to unique style. Rewarding berry aromas combined with hints of spice supporting smokey palate.
Rosé
Elegant rosé wine crafted from quality grapes, offering fresh fruit flavors and a crisp finish.
Grandpa's 1942 Ford Cape Ruby
Port-style fortified wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes. Fermented then fortified to 18% alcohol leaving residual sugar. Dark ruby color with full body, well integrated wood and alcohol. Available in 375ml bottles. Made by fifth generation.
